Concept art is the beginning of bringing a story to life. Mary Blair was known for her concept illustrations for some early animations of Disney. Her work implements a real, authentic texture which was popular in the 50s. As one of my favorite illustrators, I decided to use Blair’s work and unique style as a study for this piece.

The illustration captures a moment between a father wolf and his son foreshadowing the son’s future role as the leader of the pack. The shapes of the figures, the use of highlights and shadows, and textures are all elements inspired by the great works of Mary Blair.
